Maxwell’s Story

New Year’s Eve 2016—Found with scars and worn pads, a lethargic, scruffy, smelly but friendly dog wandered into a hotel. He certainly picked the right hotel to walk into! We called him “Maxwell Rez”—”Rez” for Resolution. Max was running around in the streets for a very long time in a dirty, industrial area. We found out that he had a many, many untreated medical conditions. Just to name a few—Max suffered from urinary crystals and microbial and fungal skin infections (that took years to diagnose); The inside of his ears looked like cauliflowers from years of untreated ear infections; He ended up needing 2 surgeries for tumor removals on his groin and belly; Max’s feet were swollen and constantly cracking, so he had to wear booties since his pads had worn so thin; We had to wash him with 2 special medicated shampoos and 1 leave-in conditioner every 3 days for months this last year—and the constant round-the-clock care, medicines and expensive surgeries earned his nickname “Million $ Miracle”.

Despite his multitude of health issues, Max remained so calm, loving and happy through it all. We had countless beautiful times and memories. Max enjoyed sunbathing, trips to the beach and snuggling at nighttime. On Friday August 19, 2021, our gentle giant Maxwell Rez lost his battle with his health challenges. He was around 11 years old. We are blessed to be his fur-ever family and provide him with the special needs and care he needed.

Maxwell’s 1st

Surgery

Maxwell had a mass on his groin that grew very quickly. It was a tumor that started to spread inside to his leg. Sam Simone foundation helped us remove it!

Maxwell’s 2nd Surgery

About 8 months later another mass started to grow on the other side. The tumor was very aggressive and spread once again, but sweet Max was such a trooper. The cancer never came back on the outside of his body but instead started to grow inside his abdomen 2 years later. Learn how you can help us save even more animals with the button below.

In Loving Memory

When I looked into your eyes they were filled with trauma, fear, desperation, hunger and distrust. Despite all of your trauma, your heart was an ocean of love. My furever angel, my best friend and my gentle giant. You are the definition of a shining star. Till we hold each other again, my Maxwell Rez.

Max taught us that every single furbaby deserves to be healthy and comfortable. Learn how to help us save even more animals with the button below.
